A moonphase watch is just what it sounds like– a watch that allows you track the current phase of the moon. This year, Baselworld showcased a much larger display of moonphase watches than in years past. Rolex released a really impressive moonphase watch this year: the Rolex Cellini Moonphase.
Vintage is in
A lot of the latest designs this year were vintage-inspired. Many of the major watchmaking companies showcased new designs that adopted features from mid-to-early 1900 watches.
Smart watches that don’t look “smart”
Let’s face it. Smart watches are great, but a lot of times the designs are clunky. Baselworld 2017 showcased some elegant watches that integrate smartwatch technology. We’re approaching the days where your smart watch can look as fashionable as your Rolex.
Blue IP Plating
There’s a trend in the watch industry to make fashionable watches more durable. This is done through a process called blue IP plating. This process has been common with jewelry for many years. Look for more watches in 2017 and 2018 that are built to withstand tougher conditions and bumps because of blue IP plating.
